COVID-19

Coronavirus Update:

WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS

NEW HEALTH & SAFETY POLICIES

How We’re Serving Our Community and State

In over 100 years of serving Utah, we’ve become a fixture in communities across the Salt Lake Valley and beyond. The unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19 forced us to make a difficult decision. With the safety of our patients and staff in mind, we moved to significantly limit our eye care services on a temporary basis.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve worked hard to further develop our cleaning and safety protocols to be able to offer more of our routine services once again. We’re pleased to announce that all Standard Optical locations are open for business! When you come to us for eye care, you can rest assured that our experienced doctors and extensively trained opticians will provide personalized and safe service.

How We’re Keeping You Safe Throughout Utah

We are a health care provider: keeping a sterilized, hygienic, and safe workplace for our customers has always been our priority. Our policies continue this tradition to not only keep our customers and staff safe, but to help them feel at ease and cared for whenever they’re in our offices. We’ve committed ourselves to these protocols:

  • Pre-Screening Questions. If a patient has any signs of illness, we may ask them to either reschedule or use tele-health or virtual services instead. We may require patients to have their temperature taken with a no-contact, infrared thermometer at the start of their visit.
  • Extensive Cleaning & Disinfecting. Any areas or surfaces touched during a visit — pens, clipboards, desks, restrooms, door handles, frames, mirrors, chairs, diagnostic equipment, and more — will be thoroughly cleaned before, during, and after appointments.
  • Enforced Safety Precautions. Our staff will always wear masks and gloves. Patients and guardians will be expected to wear masks and follow all precautions.
  • New Patient Services. Our certified opticians select and disinfect your frames. We measure your face for your eyewear using our no-touch Smart Mirror. Tele-health and virtual appointments are available. All eyewear can even be shipped directly to your home!

What to Expect at Your Appointment at Standard Optical

During these unprecedented times, we’re dedicated to providing the friendly and patient-oriented care we always have. We just may have to do it from a few feet further away than usual!

You will be asked to wear a face mask, but we may provide a mask if you don’t have one. Only one patient should be in the office at a time. If a guardian is necessary, they will also have to answer intake questions, follow our policies, and possibly wait in their vehicles.

We may take your temperature with a no-contact thermometer. We’ll direct you to a designated seating area, frames try-on desk, or appointment room. Our eye doctors and opticians will take care of you from there, maintaining social distancing and disinfecting equipment and frames throughout your visit.

Our patient care is more than following healthy policies: it’s making sure you feel comfortable, and get the eye care you’ve come to expect from us, while we ensure your health is protected. We won’t accept patients with a fever or other COVID-19 symptoms, but we will happily help those patients reschedule.
